Hi everybody!

We have recently launched a new website, after more than two years of planning, false starts, building and tweaking – it has been a somewhat painful experience at times, but we got there!

Anyway, part of this new website is our Blog.  So far Sarah & I have been posting daily for over three weeks and I can’t see that easing up in a hurry – we have so many great new images to share along with a backlog of gear reviews to write, and heaps of  New Zealand travel and photography advice to dispense!

So the terribly neglected Photo Autocracy will be segueing into a ‘blog about a blog’ – I will post links to our articles here and hopefully keep you all happy!

Head on over to read all about the making of today’s image – enjoy!

Cheers – Todd (and Sarah)

Our Camera Gear – UPDATED

Morning reflections of Mt Christina and the Darran Mountains, from the Key Summit Tarns. Routeburn Track, Fiordland New Zealand

Morning reflections of Mt Christina and the Darran Mountains, from the Key Summit Tarns. Routeburn Track, Fiordland New Zealand.  This image made on a Nikon D2x using a 12-24mm f/4 zoom.  The lens is reviewed on our updated reviews page but the body ain’t – after all, who would buy a D2x these days!?

Howdy folks – I have updated our camera gear page on the website.  Rather than extensive and time consuming full on reviews I have opted for some highly opinionated bite-sized snippets.  It is mainly Nikon DX and FX lenses and bodies under the microscope, but I have included the gear used during our brief dalliance with Canon as well.

Enjoy!

Cheers – Todd

How to take breathtaking landscape photos

Living Landscapes a guide to stunning landscape photography. eBook available for purchase 25 July

Living Landscapes a guide to stunning landscape photography. eBook now on sale!

Sarah & I have been flat out working on last week’s launch of our landscape photography eBook – Living Landscapes, Your Guide to Stunning Landscape Photography in conjunction with Digital-Photography-School (dPS).

We wrote Living Landscapes as easy to read and accessible guide for aspiring landscape photographers – we even attempted to inject a little humour into the subject of photography (a world first, we believe).

We have been overwhelmed and humbled by the response to this book -  with thousands of copies sold in the first week!  Most importantly,  readers seem to be loving it – heres what they are saying:

“I got this eBook first thing this morning and have spent the rest of the day reading, dreaming and then taking an impromptu short road trip into the mountains outside of the town where I live to practice my landscape photography. I can’t thank you enough for the motivation and teaching to improve my work!” – Brenda Mason

“I love this eBook. It is so cool to learn from people like Todd. I can’t wait to use what I have learned today by reading it. I have so many new ideas!” – Gavin Banyard

“I think it was worth buying the book just for the laughs, nice going!  I like your approach of crafting first, it really makes sense to me.  So besides landscapes, I am getting deeper into the camera and trying things out.  Your shots are really inspirational – beautiful country, pity about your rugby team though…” – Colin Hancox (photographer and disgruntled Springboks supporter)

“Just did a quick read-through — so thorough and I love the projects.  Can’t wait for a good long night of reading and practicing! Thanks from California. …….”- Amy Stephenson

Save 33% on Living landscapes while it is on launch promo – it is ready for immediate download over at Digital-Photography-School right now.  Don’t dither though, this promo is for a very limited time.

Crikey! It’s been a while…

I had actually forgotten that I have this blog, but I received some emails over the weekend that I have some new ‘followers’ (anyone who follows me is surely a misguided soul) so I thought I had better pony up some new content.  The plan was, by now, to have migrated our blogging to our new website.  The new website has now been in ‘development’ for so long that our developer fears that it is looking dated before it even launches!

This image is one of a series of images that I captured on a stunning morning at Moeraki.  It has been selected as the cover shot for our upcoming instructional ebook Living Landscapes which goes on  sale as of Thursday via Digital Photography School.  Living Landscapes reveals all of our artistic tips and tricks along with the essential technical considerations behind making great images.

I will keep you posted as to the purchasing details once they come to hand.
